Fan vs player version: which one to buy?
Share
Most of our shirts come in two versions: fan and player. They share the same design, but they are made for different uses. Knowing the difference saves you from choosing the wrong cut or the wrong size.
The short answer
- Fan version: classic, looser cut. Comfortable for everyday wear, the stands and the sofa.
- Player version: slimmer and more flexible fit, designed for movement, with more details in the finish.
The cut: the numbers tell the story
Compare our two tables, shirt measured flat from armpit to armpit:
- Size S: fan 53 to 55 cm, player 49 to 51 cm.
- Size M: fan 55 to 57 cm, player 51 to 53 cm.
- Size L: fan 57 to 58 cm, player 53 to 55 cm.
- Size XL: fan 58 to 60 cm, player 55 to 57 cm.
In practice, the player version is around 3 to 4 cm narrower and also a little shorter. The same size can fit very differently in each version.
Fabric and finish
On the player version, the crest, the sponsors and the brand logo are embroidered, the fabric is more flexible and it absorbs sweat better. On the fan version, the crest and the brand logo are sewn on, with a simpler finish that is easy to wear every day. Both are 100% polyester.
Sizes available
The fan table goes from S to 4XL, with 3XL and 4XL made for selected models. The player table goes from S to 2XL. If you usually wear 3XL or more, the fan version is the way to go.
Which one should you buy?
- For the stadium, the pub and everyday wear: fan version.
- To play five-a-side or train: player version.
- If you are broad in the chest or like some room: fan version, or the player version one size up.
- For collectors who love the details: player version.
- For a gift when you are not sure of the size: fan version, which forgives more.
Can I play in the fan version?
Yes, it is a comfortable shirt for a kickabout. It absorbs less sweat than the player version, though, so for intense games or regular training the player version is the more comfortable choice.
Women's and kids versions
Besides fan and player, many shirts also come in women's and kids versions, each with its own table. See the women's fit guide and the kids size guide.
The price difference
The player version costs more because of its finish and fabric. If you will wear the shirt mostly off the pitch, the fan version gives you the same design for less.
Both can be customized
Name and number work the same way on both versions: up to 15 letters and 2 digits. Many models also accept patches. See our name and number guide before you choose.
Same care for both
Inside out, cold water, no softener and no iron on the print. The washing guide has the full routine.
