Kids football kits: how to choose the right size

Buying a football kit for a child has one simple trap: the size is written by age, but children of the same age can have very different heights. This guide solves it in two minutes.

What comes in a kids kit

Our kids kits come with the shirt and the shorts of the same model, made of 100% polyester, light and easy to wash. Many of them can have a name and number on the back and, on some models, patches too.

Why the age misleads

An 8 year old can be 1.20 m or 1.35 m tall. The age on the label is an average, useful as a starting point but not to decide. What decides is the height.

How to measure in two minutes

Barefoot, back against the wall, looking straight ahead. Place a book flat on top of the head, mark the wall and measure from the mark down to the floor. That is the number you will use in the table.

Our kids size table

Size Child's height (cm)
2 to 3 years 92 to 98
3 to 4 years 98 to 104
4 to 5 years 104 to 110
5 to 6 years 110 to 116
6 to 7 years 116 to 122
7 to 8 years 122 to 128
8 to 9 years 128 to 134
9 to 10 years 134 to 140
10 to 11 years 140 to 146
11 to 12 years 146 to 152
12 to 13 years 152 to 158

The sizes on sale change from model to model, and each product page shows the ones available. If the exact size is not there, choose the next one up.

Going one size up so it lasts longer: when it works

  • It works: when the child is in a growth spurt, for everyday wear, and only one size up.
  • It does not work: for playing. Big shorts slip and a big shirt gets in the way, and the child ends up not wearing it.
  • Never: two sizes up. The kit looks out of proportion and the fit is lost.

Right at the edge of a size?

If your child's height is at the top of a range, choose the next size: children grow fast, and a kit that is a little long lasts the whole season.

The shorts have to fit too

Everyone looks at the shirt, but in a kit the shorts matter just as much. The waist has an elastic band that adjusts, but the length does not. That is one more reason to choose by height instead of age.

For the youngest fans

Babies have their own bodysuits, with press studs between the legs to make changing easy. Sizes go by months, like 6 to 12 months (68 to 80 cm, 7.5 to 10.5 kg) and 12 to 20 months (80 to 90 cm, 10 to 13 kg).

A name on the back

A child's own name and their favorite number make the kit unique. Remember that a customized kit is made just for them and is not exchanged because of the size, so measure before ordering. See our name and number guide.
